Last week representatives of the Transport ministries of Finland and Russia participated in joint events dedicated to the half-century anniversary of the navigation channel. The meeting of the two countries representatives allowed to discuss the roads adjacent to the waterway.

It should be reminded that Suomi is a tenant of the roads running along the canal, including the infamous route between the settlements of Vyborg and Brusnichnoe. Despite the fact that the Finnish road services regularly repair the route, it remains a high-risk area. Due to several major accidents in the winter of this year, the Russian side suspended the transportation of tourist groups. The point is that the road initially had the status of technological.

Representatives of Finland and Russia discussed the issue of improving the level of safety on the highway, including through the installation of additional road signs, lighting, special fences and so on. In addition, it is planned to develop a bypass route, which will be designed exclusively for passenger traffic.
